چکیده
In this paper, we propose a novel contention-based protocol, called Reservation with Grouping Stations (RGS) for the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). In the proposed RGS scheme, stations are grouping into the active group, the ready group, and the idle group. Furthermore, stations announce the next frame’s backoff counter beforehand. The proposed scheme is compared with the DCF and another scheme in the literature, and simulation results show that the proposed scheme is the best among these

EBA: An Enhancement of IEEE 802.11 DCF via Distributed Reservation
The IEEE 802.11 standard for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) employs a Medium Access Control (MAC), called Distributed Coordination Function (DCF), which is based on Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA). The collision avoidance mechanism utilizes the random backoff prior to each frame transmission attempt. The random nature of the backoff reduces the collision p...
متن کاملQoS protection for IEEE 802.11E in WLAN with shared EDCA and DCF access
The next deployments of IEEE 802.11 WLAN will involve the coexistence of the legacy best effort stations and the new recently standardised QoS-aware stations in QoS Basic Service Set (QBSS). However, if no control is applied to the legacy stations, this coexistence may deteriorate QoS support provided by the new IEEE 802.11e standard. In this paper the influence of IEEE 802.11b DCF stations on ...
متن کاملPUMA – A New Channel Access Protocol for Wireless LANs
In this paper we propose an extension of the IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [5] called PUMA (Priority Unavoidable Multiple Access). PUMA can easy be implemented in wireless network cards instead of IEEE 802.11 DCF. It has been shown through simulation that PUMA is fair, efficient, stable and allows for provision of time-bounded services. Moreover, its performance is unaffected by hidden stations. The...
متن کاملA Reservation-Based Enhancement of IEEE 802.11 DCF Protocol
IEEE 802.11 DCF is an asynchronous and distributed MAC protocol which does not require the existence of a central controller for medium access coordination. This flexibility, which is due to DCF’s contention-based nature, comes at the expense of the overhead associated with contention resolution. The overhead consists of frame collision time and channel idle time, which is particularly severe w...
متن کاملA Novel Performance Analysis of the IEEE 802.11 DCF in the presence of Hidden Stations
IEEE 802.11 is the most popular standard used in WLAN. Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) is one of the channel-access methods in the IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. However, It has not been adequately studied under the existence of hidden stations. In the paper, we present the novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11 DCF in the presence of hidden stations. ...
